Dietrich Rolle

Dietrich Rolle (* 1929 in Breslau ; † July 22, 2008 in Mainz ) was a German English scholar , literary scholar and professor at the University of Mainz .

Life

Rolle first grew up in his hometown of Breslau, but then passed his Abitur in Soest . After an editorial traineeship, he then completed a degree in English, German and philosophy in Münster, and from 1959 to 1960 he was a junior instructor at Johns Hopkins University , Baltimore . In 1961 he received his doctorate at the University of Münster and immediately afterwards he became a research assistant at the English Department of the University of Münster until 1968.

In 1968 he completed his habilitation in English philology at this university. From 1968 to 1969 Rolle was a professor at the University of Cologne . From 1969 he was a diet lecturer at the University of Münster. From 1969 to 1973 he worked as a full professor at the Ruhr University in Bochum. From 1972 to 1973 he was visiting professor at St. Louis University .

From 1973 until his retirement in 1995, Rolle was a full professor at the University of Mainz.
