Dietrich Tönnis

Dietrich Tönnis (born August 10, 1927 in Würzburg , † August 21, 2010 in Dortmund ) was a German pediatric orthopedist . His specialty was hip dislocation.

Life

He was the son of the neurosurgeon Wilhelm Tönnis and grew up in Berlin-Schmargendorf and Bochum-Langendreer. From 1947 to 1953 he studied medicine at the universities of Münster, Freiburg, Cologne and Munich. After the medical state examination in Munich, he spent a year internship in New Jersey with the help of the Ventnor Foundation. In 1966 he completed his habilitation at the Free University of Berlin and in 1972 became an adjunct professor at the University of Münster .

His clinical career included the following stations:

  • 1958–1960 assistant to the trauma surgery professional association University Clinic Bergmannsheil , Bochum
  • 1960–1968 assistant and senior physician at the Orthopedic University Clinic of the Free University of Berlin, Prof. Witt
  • 1968–1970 Senior Physician at the Orthopedic University Clinic Munich-Harlaching (Prof. Dr. AN Witt)
  • 1970–1992 Senior Physician at the Orthopedic Clinic of the Dortmund City Clinics
  • 1974–1975 internship at Monmouth Memorial Hospital in Long Branch, New Jersey
  • 1976 work at the Physiological Institute of the University of Cologne
  • 1977 assistant at the neurological clinic at the University of Cologne

To correct a dysplastic adolescent hip, Dietrich Tönnis developed his "triple osteotomy".

Awards

  • 1999 honorary member of the European Pediatric Orthopedic Society

  • 2007 Pro maximis meritis medal from the EPOS
