Dietrich von Werthern (Chancellor)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dietrich von Werthern , also called Dietrich Werther or Dietrich von Wert (h) erde , (* around 1410 , † 1482 ) was the highest official of the ruling Counts of Stolberg as Chancellor since 1462 (not 1426) . He can easily be confused with Knight Dietrich von Werthern († 1470), the owner of the Wiehe estate , as he was also in the service of Stolberg.

Life

It was very likely that he came from the Nordhausen line of the von Werthern family . His father seems to have been knight Georg von Werthern († 1469), who was married to Sabine von Maltitz. The knight of the same name Dietrich von Werthern was the brother of his father Georg.

Dietrich Werther was a citizen of the city of Stolberg and temporarily the local wine master and builder. Dietrich Werther was first mentioned in 1462 as chancellor and secret councilor of Count Heinrich zu Stolberg, when he was enfeoffed with goods and houses in Roßla by his employer . These goods were inherited by his sons Dietrich and Thomas Werther, who gave them to the Martinikirche in Stolberg (Harz) on October 31, 1486 after the death of their father .

In 1462 Dietrich appeared as a squire next to the knight Dietrich von Werthern.

Dietrich von Werthern emerged as a donor several times, so in 1445 he donated an altar and vicarie to Saint George in the Hospital Church in honor of his deceased mother , in 1464 the vicarie and the altar of Saint Eustachius and in 1465 an eternal lamp for the Martini church in Stolberg.

In 1473, under the patronage of Dietrich, the altar of Saints Matthias, Fabian and Sebastian stood in the chapel of the three kings in the Martini church in Stolberg, which he had donated in 1471 with considerable financial means.

In 1482 Johann Ilmena was named as the count's chancellor.
