Digital Surf is a French software company founded in 1989, best known for its MountainsMap software. This is offered as OEM software by most manufacturers of profilometers and microscopes as an integrated or optional part of their instruments.
history
Digital Surf was founded in Besançon , France in 1989 and first made a name for itself as a manufacturer of non-contact 3D laser profilometers . In 1992, Digital Surf signed its first contract for the sale of the surface analysis software for its profilometers by another profilometer manufacturer (the Taylor-Hobson company). This contract made Digital Surf an OEM software manufacturer (at that time only for MS-DOS and Macintosh II platforms).
MountainsMap
In 1997, Digital Surf launched a new software platform for Windows 95 under the name Mountains technology . Other profilometer manufacturers such as Hommel-Etamic ( Jenoptik ) or KLA-Tencor also started marketing the product.
In 2009 Digital Surf decided to stop manufacturing profilometers in order to concentrate completely on analysis software.
In 2010 MountainsMap was sold as integrated or optional OEM surface analysis software by around 20 manufacturers, such as Ametek- Taylor-Hobson, Agilent , Jenoptik , KLA-Tencor , Leica , Mitaka Kohki, Nikon , or Zeiss .
Digital Surf helped to create the ISO 25178 standard , in which new 3D surface texture parameters are defined and described.
