Digital Sparks Award
The Digital Sparks Award has been presented with interruptions annually since 2001 to students in the fields of digital media , media art , media informatics , media architecture and media design from Germany , Austria and Switzerland . The competition is based on mentorship and a peer review process. The aim of the competition is to discover talented newcomers, make them visible and promote them. At the same time, an insight into research and teaching of media culture education at universities in German-speaking countries should be provided.
In 2001, 2002, 2003, 2006 and 2008 a total of 600 multimedia works by students from Germany, Austria and Switzerland were submitted and documented on the online archive platform for media art and electronic culture.
The projects will be posted directly on the event website with videos and explanatory materials and assessed by experts on the e-learning platform. All nominated projects are presented to a jury made up of curators, museum directors and media agencies, which selects three winners and a number of special awards. All nominated and awarded projects are documented in booklets with expert comments and jury reasons and can be downloaded free of charge.
The winners receive production grants worth 2,500 euros each. All nominated projects have a permanent presence in the online archive of the event.
The digital sparks competition is organized by the MARS Exploratory Media Lab of the Fraunhofer Institute IAIS and produced by Fraunhofer IAIS - eCulture Factory, Bremen. This TalentScout is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research .
