Dikta is an Icelandic indie rock band from Garðabær, founded in 1999 .

history

The band has existed in their current formation since 1999 - all band members have been friends since childhood. In 2000 they reached the finals at the Icelandic band competition Músíktilraunir . In recent years the band has appeared at festivals such as In The City in Manchester , the SPOT festival in Denmark and the popular Icelandic music festival Iceland Airwaves , which earned them a mention in Rolling Stone magazine .

Dikta's first album Andartak , which the band recorded entirely in Icelandic , was released in late 2002 and released by the band in Iceland under its own label Mistak Records . One of the single releases reached number one on the Icelandic charts. All three single releases achieved a high airplay on Iceland's largest rock radio station X-ið 977.

Dikta released their second album Hunting for Happiness in 2005 in Iceland. It was produced by Ace ( Skunk Anansie ) and published on Bad Taste. Gabríela Friðriksdóttir , who also worked for Björk , was responsible for the album artwork . It was the first album with all English lyrics and was also released in Denmark (2006) and Great Britain (2007).

In 2009 the band released their third work under the name Get It Together . The international release was on March 25th, 2011. The record was successful in Iceland and won the title "Most Popular Band" at the Icelandic Music Award on March 13th, 2010.

In 2012 the band took part in a project related to the drafting of Iceland's new constitution.

Although they are very popular in their homeland, the band members work full time.
