Dimitar Ovcharov

Dimitar Sawow Owtscharow ( Bulgarian Димитър Савов Овчаров ; born April 28, 1931 in Sofia , Bulgaria ; † May 23, 2013 ibid) was a Bulgarian medieval archaeologist .

Ovcharow studied history and archeology at the University of Sofia until 1956 . From 1956 to 1959 he was curator at the museum in Veliky Tarnovo , from 1960 to 1968 director of the museum in Targovishte . From 1968 to 1974 he worked at the Military Museum in Sofia . From 1974 to 2001 he worked at the National Archaeological Institute and Museum of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in Sofia, from 1983 to 1993 he was head of the Department of Medieval Archeology , from 1992 to 1993 director of the institute and the museum.

His research area was the archeology and history of the Middle Ages in Bulgaria.

His son is the archaeologist Nikolai Ovtscharow .
