Dimitris Psonis

Dimitris Psonis ( Greek Δημήτρης Ψώνης , * 1961 in Athens ) is a Greek musician.

Psonis began his musical career in Athens as Rembetikomusiker with the group Opisthodromiki Kompania . From 1984 he studied percussion at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid . He continued his education with Robert Van Sice (marimba), Gary Burton (vibraphone) and Peter Prommel (percussion). From 1994 he turned to Eastern music. He learned instruments such as santur , saz , oud and lyra and performed with Ross Daly and the Catalan singer Maria del Mar Bonet ; He also founded his trio Metamorphosis with Pedro Estevan and Hristos Tsiamulis (album of the same name in 2014; currently with Bruno Caillat and Haig Sarikouyoumdjian). In the field of Western early music was Jordi Savall his partner. Her album Dinastia Borgia (2010) with renaissance and baroque music was awarded a Grammy . He also recorded with Hespèrion XXI .
