Bruno Caillat

Bruno Caillat (* 1955 in Paris ) is a French percussionist who is active in both early music and world music .

Caillat studied at the École Normale de Musique de Paris . After graduating, he continued his studies with the zarb player Djamchid Chemirani at the Research Center for Oriental Music of the Sorbonne in Paris. Study trips took him to India and various other countries in Asia, where he was taught on other percussion instruments such as Tabla , Bendir , Kanjira , Daf and Riq .

Caillat initially worked in the folk band Gwerz as well as in the Roger Ychaï ensemble , in the Berry Hayward Consort and in the Per Tallec Trio . In his concert activities he interprets music from the early Middle Ages and the Renaissance as well as classical Turkish, Persian and Indian music. He has been a member of Kudsi Erguner's ensemble , with whom he has also released several albums and performed with Christof Lauer at the Frankfurt Jazz Festival 2019 , since 1994. Since 1993 he has been part of Doulce Mémoire , with whom he released three records with early music. He is also part of the Trio Metamorphosis by Dimitris Psonis and the ensemble by Renaud Garcia-Fons ( Navigatore 2001, Méditerranées 2010). He can also be heard on albums by Rajesh Mehta , David Hykes, Denez Prigent and Diabolus in Musica .
