overview

Developed and produced by Shenzhen Dingoo Digital in the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone ( Guangdong Province ), the Dingoo A320 has been available since March 2009, primarily through online shops for around 80 to 100 US dollars . The device combines the functions of an audio and video player and can therefore play back music and films in various file formats, similar to a portable media player . Older video games can be played through installable emulators . In addition, a radio and an audio recorder are integrated for recordings. The GP2X Wiz , which appeared around the same time, and its predecessor, the GP2X and the GP32, pursued a similar concept .

The appearance of the Dingoo is reminiscent of the Game Boy Micro .

A dingoo clone from the Gemei company, the Gemei X760 +, has been available since autumn 2009. This device essentially contains the same hardware as a dingoo, but has no shoulder buttons. At 3 inches, the display is larger than that of the Dingoo. Another difference is the use of an SD card slot, in contrast to the mini SD card slot of the Dingoo.

Linux boots on a Dingoo A320

In May 2009, a Linux kernel for the Dingoo was released for the first time. However, this had the disadvantage that there had to be a connection to the PC via the USB port during use. In the following time, the first versions of Linux programs (especially games and emulators such as ScummVM , snes9x , prboom ) were published for the Dingoo. All of these ports are still in the early stages of development in the Dingoo version. On June 25th, 2009 the Linux version Dingux was released, which makes it possible to start Linux from a memory card in addition to the original firmware without the Dingoo being connected to a PC.
