Dinko Zlatarić , also Dominko Zlatarić (* 1558 in Dubrovnik ; † 1613 ibid) was a Croatian poet and translator of the Renaissance from the Republic of Ragusa .

Life

Zlatarić was born the son of Žimun (Mihov) Zlatarić and his wife Frana into a wealthy family. His brother Miha was an officer in the army of Juraj IV. Zrinski . Dinko Zlatarić studied philosophy and medicine in the Italian municipality of Padua , where he was elected rector of the university's students in 1579 . It is not certain whether he completed his studies there. He returned to Ragusa in 1581. He was on friendly terms with poets from the Republic of Ragusa and Italy. He wrote in Croatian and Italian . One of the themes of his work was love. But also the satirical-humorous writing style found its way into his works. He is also considered to be one of the best translators of older Croatian literature. The authors are very respected in his translations. In 1580 he published the Pastoral Aminta T. Tassa; however, none of them have survived to this day.

The aim of his translation work was, according to his own statement, "to enrich the Croatian language". In his poetry of love he writes about the ideal relationship. Some songs edit content from the mythology of the ancient , still others are translations from classical sources.
