Dinorah Quadrille

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Dinorah Quadrille is a quadrille by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 224). It was first performed on August 13, 1859 in Pavlovsk , Russia.

Remarks

The quadrille was created during the composer's annual trip to Russia in 1859 and was premiered there. The composer put this quadrille together from motifs from the opera Dinorah ou Le pardon de Ploërmel (English title: Dinorah or The Pilgrimage to Ploërmel ) by Giacomo Meyerbeer . He had already done something similar with the Nordstern Quadrille (op. 153), which is also based on a Meyerbeer opera . The original title of the Dinorah Quadrille was Le Pardon Quadrille . The name was then changed in Vienna. The first performance there took place on November 20, 1859 in the Volksgarten in Vienna . In addition to this and the aforementioned Norstern quadrille, Johann Strauss also wrote the quadrille Die Afrikanerin, also about an opera by Meyerbeer. (See op. 299).

The playing time on the CD listed under itemization is 5 minutes and 48 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
