Dionys Mascolo ( 1916 - August 20, 1997 ) was a French publisher and writer.

Live and act

Shortly before the German occupation of France , Gaston Gallimard hired him as a publishing editor for his publishing house Éditions Gallimard . There he met Marguerite Duras and her future husband Robert Antelme .

With these, Mascolo then founded the "groupe de la rue Saint-Benoît" and thus joined the Resistance under François Mitterrand . In the same year of liberation he returned to Paris with Edgar Morin, among others . In the following year Mascolo joined the Parti communiste français (PCF), but was excluded again in 1949 because of his "party-damaging behavior".

Shortly after Marguerite Duras divorced Robert Anthelme in 1947, she married Mascolo in Paris. The two had a son - Jean (* 1947) - and separated again in 1956.

When the French President René Coty nominated Charles de Gaulle as Prime Minister in 1958 , Mascolo founded the magazine Le 14 juillet together with Jean Schuster ; as the mouthpiece of a growing anti-Gaullism . As a vehement opponent of French colonial policy , especially the Algerian war , Mascolo was one of the signatories of the 121st manifesto in September 1960 .

reception

As a writer, Mascolo dealt very intensively with Friedrich Nietzsche and Louis Antoine de Saint-Just ; He was also interested in the role of intellectuals, e.g. B. in communism .
