Gaston Gallimard (born January 18, 1881 in Paris , † December 25, 1975 there ) was a French publisher .

Life

Gaston Gallimard's parents were Paul Gallimard and his wife Lucie, née Duché. The sons Jacques and Raymond emerged from this marriage. The father had inherited a considerable fortune and was an avid book collector who even published small luxury editions of some works. In 1908 Gaston Gallimard founded the magazine Nouvelle Revue Française .

The publishing house Éditions Gallimard in 1911 he, together with André Gide and Jean Schlumberger founded. In 2011, the Bibliothèque nationale de France held a highly acclaimed exhibition on the history of publishing on the occasion of its 100th anniversary.
