Dionysios Bairaktaris
Dionysios Bairaktaris ( Greek Διονύσιος Μπαϊρακτάρης , * 1927 in Euboea , Greece ; † July 17, 2011 in Athens , Greece) was a Greek Orthodox clergyman and from 1979 until his death bishop and metropolitan of Chios , Psara and Inousses in the Orthodox Church of Greece .
Career
Bairaktaris was ordained deacon in Athens from 1952 to 1960 and worked as archdeacon of the cathedral of the Athens metropolis . In 1956 he received his bachelor's degree in theology. He then studied law and was ordained a priest in 1960 . Until 1978 he was a military chaplain in the Greek Navy.
On November 6, 1979, he was elected Metropolitan of Chios, ordained bishop on November 11, and on the 18th he took office on the island of Chios .
