Nicolai Dirdal

Nicolai Edland Dirdal (born February 21, 1896 in Mosterøy , † August 26, 1991 in Oslo ) was a Norwegian pianist and music teacher.

Dirdal taught piano at the Oslo Conservatory from 1922 to 1970. From 1946 to 1952 he was chairman of the Oslo Music Teachers Association, from 1952 to 1976 chairman of the Norwegian National Association of Music Teachers and from 1959 to 1962 president of the Nordisk musikkpedagogisk union as well as founder and publisher of the Norsk Musikktidsskrift (1964-1980). His many students included Einar Steen-Nøkleberg , Kjell Bækkelund , Magne Hegdal , Øystein Gaukstad and Einar Henning Smebye . For his Norwegian musical life he was awarded the Lindeman Prize.
