Direct is the name of a German rock band from the 1980s. The best-known works of the band include the titles "pigs in space" and "girl I like you" .

Band history

Directly arose from members of the Gentle Breeze group , which played as one of the pioneers of the Sulingen music scene until the end of the 1970s. Gunter Koop (bass), Peter Martins (drums) and Harald Haberecht (keyboards) brought in Veit Bringer (guitar) and Jürgen Biermann (vocals) and developed a completely new, German-language program. Most of the texts dealt with current affairs. Some texts, such as B. "Brown figures" are still relevant today.

In 1980 Klaus Schulze's studio recorded the pieces "Aufgewacht am Montag Morgen" and "Goodbye Ruth" . These were supposed to be the first single releases of a new LP, but due to a serious traffic accident, Peter Martins was out for a long time and Burchard Gonko took over the drums. The LP production was put on hold for now. In the same year the piece "Mädchen I like you" was composed. This is a soft rock ballad that is perfect for a saxophone solo. Lars Graner (saxophone) was brought in for this piece. In the months that followed, the saxophone became an integral part of the band's sound.

After a good two years of working together, they separated from Burchard again, and Dirk Behrmann took over the drums in 1983.

1984/1985 Direkt recorded twelve pieces for the first LP in Gerd Knüttel's recording studio. The album was not released, however, as the band split shortly after the recordings were completed.

In the period from 1980 to 1986 Direkt was to be seen at many open air festivals and club concerts in northern Germany. For example Direkt played at the Whitsun Festival in Sulingen (1982), the Bruchhausen Festival (1983) and at the festivals in Bad Zwischenahn (1983) and Mölln, but also in many clubs and city festivals.

At a private party in 2009, Gunter Koop was surprised by the 5 other musicians with a short concert. Since then Direkt has been rehearsing again and in 2012 played the first public concert after a long absence from the stage at the Reload Festival in Sulingen. There was another reunion at the reload festival 2013.

In May 2016, the drummer Dirk Behrman left the band. As his successor, Thomas Baier became a new member of the band.
