Disembowelment , often spelled diSEMBOWELMENT, was an Australian death doom band that was active from 1989 to 1993. Despite this short life and their narrow work, the band was influential, so they are considered pioneers of Funeral Doom .

history

The band was founded in 1989 by Renato Gallina and Paul Mazziotta, previously active in the band Bacteria. Together with Dean Ruprich as a studio musician on the electric bass, the duo recorded the first demo in 1990, Mourning September .

In 1991 the second demo tape followed, Deep Sensory Procession into Aural Fate , which secured them a contract with the American label Relapse Records . There an EP was first released, Dusk , for which the two pieces of the demo tape from 1991 were combined with another piece from 1992 ( Cerulean Transience of All My Imagined Shores ).

In the meantime strengthened by Jason Kells on guitar and Matthew Skarajew on bass, the band then recorded their only album Transcendence into the Peripheral in 1993 , half of which consisted of new recordings of already published pieces. Shortly after the album was released, the band broke up. Disembowelment never performed live.

In 2005 a box with all of the band's recordings was released. Skarajew and Mazziotta got together in 2010, completed a band called d.USK, later Inverloch , and performed at the Roadburn Festival , where they played the entire studio album.
