Disetronic

The Disetronic Holding AG was in 1984 Burgdorf ( Switzerland based) company that engaged in the manufacture and distribution of infusion systems in medicine. It became known through the development of new types of insulin pumps for the therapy of diabetes mellitus .

Disetronic was founded by the brothers Willy and Peter Michel with government support. In 2000 the company had 1,021 employees and generated sales of CHF 252.20 million. In 2003 the Disetronic Group was split up. The main part, which comprised the area of ​​infusion systems, was taken over by the pharmaceutical company Roche and integrated into the Roche Diabetes Care business unit within the Roche Diagnostics division. In contrast, the injection division (Disetronic Injection Systems AG) was continued as an independent company under the name Ypsomed and was floated on the stock exchange in 2004 through an IPO .

In 2005 there were difficulties with the approval of insulin pumps for the USA. The American health authority FDA denied access because of alleged quality problems. In October 2006, the lifting of the import ban meant that goods could be returned to the USA.
