Dispur ( Assamese : দিছপুৰ , Dichpur ; Bengali : দিসপুর , Dispur ) is the seat of government of the Indian state of Assam .

Dispur is a district of Guwahati and is located approximately 5 km south of the city center. Dispur has about 10,812 inhabitants (2012 calculation). With the establishment of the state of Meghalaya in 1972 Dispur replaced the old capital Shillong .
