The Perlsee is a reservoir created in 1962 near Waldmünchen in the Cham district in the Upper Palatinate Forest .

The purpose of the storage facility is flood protection , energy generation with a hydroelectric power plant of 115 kW, as well as leisure and recreation. The reservoir is located on the upper reaches of the Bohemian Schwarzach , a tributary of the Naab . Its water surface is about 21 hectares. It is dammed by a 580 m long earth dam. It is operated by the Regensburg Water Management Authority. In the vicinity of the Perlsee there are two more reservoirs: the Silbersee near Treffelstein and the Eixendorfer reservoir between Neunburg vorm Wald and Rötz .

Freetime activities

The Perlsee is a popular destination for excursions and local recreation. There is a bathing beach with a lawn for sunbathing, sanitary facilities, a campsite, a lakeside restaurant, a mini golf course, a beach volleyball court, opportunities for water sports (pedal boating, rowing, windsurfing and sailing) and fishing, an exercise path , an uphill and downhill Low rope course; ice skating and ice stock sport in winter. There are well-developed hiking trails on the shore and around the lake. Bathing is free on the south bank, but without sanitation.

The fish species in the lake are pike, carp, trout, tench and whitefish.
