Dive Alert is the name of one of Sacnoth in 1999 for the Neo Geo Pocket Color published in Japan submarine - simulation with elements of the areas of role and strategy games . A year later the game was released in English for the American market.

action

In the game itself, you play a submarine captain (or captain) who controls a so-called SAS (Systematic Armored Submarine) together with a human-like robot, the NaviCom. The background is one after a supernovaof a nearby star, earth shaken by environmental disasters, where people fled into the oceans under the guidance of a mother computer called Cur Deus Homo or CDH for short. There they live in domus, which are distributed all over the place, which also serve to maintain and equip the SAS. Most people's goal is to collect enough points by fighting unmanned SAS, the Automen, to get to a country town called Terra, specially designed and secured by the CDH. Another group of people, the Resistance, sees Terra as a non-existent legend , and CDH as the enemy who only controls the people and therefore has to be fought.

Gameplay

A large part of the game is spent in an underwater environment, simply represented by a sonar-like display, in which one moves in real time during the missions. Opposing SAS appear as symbolic graphics, as do projectiles, mines and the remains of enemies shot down. In addition to normal movements, there are various levels of depth that can be reached by ascending or descending, and which also act as natural boundaries for certain types of SAS. Due to these different depth levels, there are different weapon systems that can be used on the same level (for example torpedoes) or on other levels (such as sink mines).

Between the missions, you have the opportunity to use the money you have earned or stolen equipment, which is available in very large numbers, to expand and convert your SAS (similar to Front Mission ). Each building component has different effects and serves different purposes. The game plot is told in extensive cutscenes and is very text-heavy. In addition, a simple mini-game is offered, in which you can shoot a small torpedo rifle at passing ships and other sea-related objects in the fair-like manner, as well as the possibility of a simple multiplayer game with a second player via the link cable.

Versions

There are two different versions of this game: Matt's version (Barn in Japanese) and Becky's version (Rebecca in Japanese). This form of publication, which was popular at the time, contained small differences between otherwise identical games, which offered an incentive to play through the various publications again or to buy both versions directly. Specifically, in the present case, the companions of the main character (Matt receives female, Becky male) and the possible equipment that can be purchased differ.
