Diwali is a successful dancehall - riddim , the 2002 by Steven 'Lenky' Marsden for the Jamaican label 40/40 Productions produced. It was named after the Hindu festival of lights Diwali .

The riddim became known through the hits Get Busy by Sean Paul , Never Leave You (Uh Oooh, Uh Oooh!) By US rapper Lumidee and No Letting Go by Wayne Wonder . The Greensleeves Rhythm Album # 27 includes 20 other recordings of Jamaican artists such as Bounty Killer , Elephant Man and Anthony B .

The Riddim is at 100 bpm impulsive and hypnotic, which by Indian seeming clapping ( Clapping is effected) in a complex rhythm pattern. The riddim was partially adapted by producer Lenky for individual artists with the help of synthesizer melodies (for example with Wayne Wonder, Sean Paul and Wayne Marshall). Most of the time, the Diwali riddim only consists of the groove of a rhythm section . For this reason, the riddim is compatible with many songs and is therefore often used for remixes outside of the dance hall . The Diwali version of Dance With You by the bhangra singer Rishi Rich with Jay Sean and Juggy was successful .

In the wake of the Diwali success, further riddims with clapping elements appeared in the following years , the best known of which was the clappas riddim named after it . The riddim also had an audible influence on the song Hey Mama by the Black Eyed Peas (the same basic rhythm of the kick drum and the use of claps).
