Dmitri Valeryevich Tertyschny ( Russian Дмитрий Валерьевич Тертышный * 26. December 1976 in Chelyabinsk , Russian SFSR ; † 23. July 1999 on the Okanagan Lake , British Columbia , Canada ) was a Russian ice hockey defender , who for the Philadelphia Flyers in the National Hockey League played.

Career

Dmitri Tertyschny began his career with HK Traktor Chelyabinsk in the Russian Super League . In the 1995 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the sixth round at position 132. But he stayed in Russia for three more years, where he developed into a defender who was very good at the body-hugging game on the defensive.

In the summer of 1998 he went to North America and was able to prevail in the Philadelphia Flyers squad. He played a good rookie season review and came to a mission in the Playoffs .

During the summer break on July 23, 1999, a serious accident happened. With two players from the Flyers' farm team , Francis Bélanger and Michail Tschernow , he went on a boat tour on Okanagan Lake in British Columbia . When a wave hit the boat, Tertyschny fell headlong into the water. The boat passed over him and the propeller severed his neck and carotid artery.

Dmitri Tertyschny left behind his wife, who was four months pregnant at the time of the accident.
