Dmitri Yanov-Yanovsky (born April 24, 1963 in Tashkent ) is an Uzbek composer.

Life

Yanov-Yanovsky studied composition and instrumentation with his father Felix Yanov-Yanovsky at the State Conservatory of Uzbekistan in Tashkent until 1986 . For his Lacrymosa , premiered by Phyllis Bryn-Julson and the Arditti Quartet , he received a special mention at the 1991 International Composition Competition for Sacred Music in Friborg. The following year he attended master classes with Poul Ruders and Edisson Denissow in Denmark. For presentiment for ensemble and tape he received the ALEA III International Prize in Boston and the Prix ​​Spécial de Nantes for the film music for Kammie at the Festival International du Film de Cannes . In 1993 he attended the IRCAM summer course in Paris.

1993-94 he worked as a chang player in performances and the recording of his Chang Music V by the Kronos Quartet . In 1996 he founded the Ilkhom XX Festival in Tashkent, of which he was artistic director until 2006. In 1999 there were two portrait concerts for him in Rome and Turin, and in 2003 two more in Brussels and Mons. Between 2002 and 2004 he was composer in residence with the Belgian ensemble Musiques Nouvelles . In 2006 he took part in the Professional Training Workshops for Young Musicians at Carnegie Hall . From 2008-09 he was artist in residence at Harvard University .

In addition to stage and orchestral works, chamber music, vocal works and solo pieces, Yanov-Yanovsky composed 50 film scores and 25 plays.
