Do Jong Hwan (born September 27, 1954 in Ch'ŏngju , Ch'ungch'ŏngbuk-do ) is a South Korean poet and member of parliament .

Life

Do Jong Hwan was born in Ch'ŏngju on September 27, 1954 . Do was a teacher and leisure lyric poet until his wife's death, two years after their wedding, which led him to compose the work You, like a mallow blossom ; a book of poetry filled with heart-rending love poems that earned him critical acclaim and instant fame. After the death of his wife, he realized that life had to go on, even if it was more arduous than death, and therefore tried to enjoy his life more. He acted as chairman of a regional organization of the teachers' union, which had the goal of improving training standards, and he was also a member of an organization that campaigned for democracy . Although he lost his post as a teacher as a result and was even imprisoned, he continued his struggle for justice and a better future.

Do also addresses the problem of the division of Korea by presenting the problems of a single individual in a divided country. With his view of things, he opened up new perspectives for the reunification of North and South Korea.
