history

The refuge, which was first built in 1810, is owned by the Villach section of the PES. It received extensions in 1873, 1907 and for the last time in 1964. It was named after the city architect Ludwig Walter. He was an excellent high alpinist and led the Villach section of the DuOeAV from 1896 to 1906 . As a specialist, he was significantly involved in the second renovation and enlargement of the summit house. Building councilor Walter died on June 24, 1921; In honor of his services, the house was renamed Ludwig-Walter-Haus.

The groundbreaking ceremony for a new building took place on July 10, 2010. It was planned as a passive house , i.e. highly insulated against thermal losses. Passive and active solar energy can be used via the large-scale planned south facade . All wastewater is treated in an organic sewage treatment plant. The Ludwig-Walter-Haus, now called the Dobratsch Summit House, has been in operation again since December 21, 2010.
