Dobri Dimitrov Dobrew ( Bulgarian Добри Добрев ; nickname "the saint from Bajlowo"; also known under the name of Grandfather Dobri ; born July 20, 1914 in Bajlowo ; † February 13, 2018 near Sofia ) was a Bulgarian benefactor and devout Christian.

Life

Dobrew grew up as a half-orphan after his father was killed in World War I. He himself lost much of his hearing after a grenade detonated during World War II .

Dobrew collected alms in front of the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Sofia . The money - tens of thousands of euros over the years - he donated at least partially to charitable organizations and churches. He himself lived in a small room in the back yard of the church in his hometown. His goddaughter Ute Ehrenberg filmed a documentary entitled The Silent Angel ( The Silent Angel ) about him. Nothing is known about the release.

Dobrew died after a brief illness on February 13, 2018 in the Kremikowzi Monastery , where he had been housed for the last years of his life.
