Doc Holliday was a Southern rock - band from Macon , Georgia , named after the Western legend Doc Holliday .

history

The singer and guitarist Bruce Brookshire and his brother formed a blues band called "Roundhouse" in 1971, which toured as supporting acts for many well-known bands such as Ted Nugent, Bob Seger, The Beach Boys and Wet Willie. In the late 1970s, Molly Hatchet's manager became aware of the band, which at that time was renamed Doc Holliday and played with a new line-up. With his help, they got a record deal with A&M Records in 1980. The debut album Doc Holliday was released in 1981 and reached a place in the top 30 of the Billboard Rock LPs. The LP Doc Holliday Rides Again , also released in 1981, brought the breakthrough and made the band known especially in Europe. In contrast, the LP Moderne Medicine , released in 1983, was a failure because the band tried to find a new style with fashionable borrowings from 1980s pop. The album created tension in the band and their first breakup. They found themselves back together in 1986, went back to their roots in Southern Rock style and released the album Danger Zone . Another CD that resumed the 1980s tradition was the album A Better Road .

In the following years the band toured a lot, often in Europe, and brought out further recordings, but often new recordings, remixes of earlier pieces or reissues of old LPs. Ultimately, the band could not repeat the success of 1981.

In 2015 the band finally broke up.

style

Doc Holliday was particularly influenced by the Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd , which manifested itself in the interplay of the twin guitars of the two lead guitarists. Many of the songs were played on the keyboarder's Hammond organ . In addition, one can identify many elements of country rock and hard rock . The strong, “smoky” voice of their frontman and songwriter Bruce Brookshire is also very striking in the band's songs.

Anecdotal

Bandleader Bruce Brookshire turned away from making music and turned to pastor and preacher at Grace Fellowship Church in Warner Robins, Georgia.
