Dokkumer Ee
The Dokkumer Ee is a river in Friesland between the cities of Leeuwarden and Dokkum . It crosses the municipalities of Leeuwarden and Noardeast-Fryslân . The river is an important shipping route in the north of Friesland. It creates the connection from Leeuwarden to the Wadden Sea through the Lauwersmeer .
The Dokkumer Ee is also part of the “ Elfstedentocht ”, a long-distance ice skating event.
