The Doktorsburg , also called Haus Büchel or Oberbüchel , is a former moated castle , later an estate and today a mansion in the Leverkusen district of Wiesdorf (Rathenaustraße 63) in North Rhine-Westphalia .

history

The moated castle was first mentioned around 1171 and was owned by Abraham Schaaffhausen , among others .

In 1540, Dr. Jakob von Omphal took over the property and used it as a fortified manor, the “Doktorsburg”. In 1682 the manor house was rebuilt by Baron von Merode, Commander of the Teutonic Order , which came to the Wiesdorf community in 1910.

In the 1930s, the Doktorsburg was to be converted into a local museum. The work that had already started had to be canceled by a decree by the Reich and Prussian Minister for Science, Education and National Education, Bernhard Rust .

Today the manor house of the Doktorsburg serves as the “house of the elderly”, a meeting and conference center for senior citizens.

description

The former moated castle was surrounded by moats that were fed by two streams, the Mühlenbach, which branched off from the Dhünn here, and the Mutzbach , which runs underground here today.

A map of 1820/39 in Urkataster shows that the castle separate by a moat main and Vorburg included. The still existing mansion was placed under monument protection on March 16, 1987 .
