Systematics
Class : Insects (Insecta)
Order : Butterflies (Lepidoptera)
Family : Swarmers (Sphingidae)
Subfamily : Sphinginae
Genre : Dolbogen
Type : Ceratomia igualana
Scientific name
Dolbogene igualana
( Schaus , 1932)

Dolbogene igualana is a butterfly ( moth ) from the family of moth (Sphingidae). Some authors attribute the species to the genus Ceratomia .

features

Too few specimens of the butterflies have been caught so far to be able to draw conclusions about the variation in their pattern. The moths are slightly larger than the individuals of the similar species Dolbogene hartwegii , which has a fore wing length of up to 26 millimeters. The diffuse brown, gray and white wing pattern of D. igualana has significantly more brown components than in the similar species, and its pattern is a little more vivid. It lacks the two spots on the anal angles of the wings, and the post-medial lines, unlike in D. hartwegii , are not formed on the underside of the two pairs of wings.

Occurrence and way of life

Only a few specimens of the species have been caught so far, so nothing is known about their way of life. One specimen was attracted by artificial light . Occurrences are proven from Mexico and south to Costa Rica .
