Roderick Anthony Burton II , known under the stage name Dolla (born November 25, 1987 in Chicago , † May 18, 2009 in Los Angeles ) was an American rapper .

Life

Dolla's childhood was overshadowed by the death of his twin sister at birth and his father's suicide five years later. His mother moved to Atlanta with him and his sister .

In his youth, Dolla belonged to the Da Razkalz Cru , which in 2003 released a single called So Fly . After the group broke up due to a lack of success, he worked as a model for P. Diddy 's fashion label . His further musical career was promoted by Akon , who recorded him on his label Konvict Muzik and with whom he worked on the soundtrack of the dance film Step Up in 2006 . With Akon he also recorded the single Who the Fuck Is That? which appeared in early 2008. In the version with T-Pain and Tay Dizm , this could place in the US Hot 100 .

Then Dolla worked on his debut album. Even before its completion, he was shot dead on May 18, 2009 in Los Angeles in front of a mall on the street. A little later, the police were able to overpower the perpetrator at the international airport . As far as the police are aware, the motive may lie in a previous argument between Dolla and the alleged perpetrator in a strip club .
