history

Dietrich Wagner is said to have been a royal Swedish lieutenant colonel since 1593. The bailiff of the same name from Walkenried had owned a fiefdom in Sundhausen since 1655.

On April 16, 1712 the brothers Johann Friedrich and Bodo Wilhelm Wagner were legitimized by Prince Christian Wilhelm I of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen with the addition of Carlsburg to their noble status . All branches of the family that are still in bloom today go back to Johann Christian Wagner von Carlsburg, who married Johanne Sophia von Heldern in 1709, whose father was the last of his tribe to die.

The family's ancestral home is the Carlsburg of the same name in Sundhausen until 1904 , which was expanded under Alfred von Carlsburg, married to Marie P. Renata Baroness von Ungern-Sternberg . From the end of the 18th century to the middle of the 19th century, the family moved into their properties near Guben (Schöneiche, Groß Bösitz, etc.). The family crypt from the 18th century was also located in Guben, but it is no longer there.

The von Carlsburg family is one of the direct descendants of Lucas Cranach the Elder. Ä. (1472–1553), painter a. Renaissance graphic artist, and Benedikt Carpzov the Elder (1565–1624), professor of law.

The von Carlsburg family in literature

On August 7, 1823 Wilhelm Freiherr von Humboldt , a relative of the von Carlsburg family, wrote the following lines to his wife Caroline von Humboldt : “I haven't written anything funny to you for so long, dear child, and today I have something so eminent of this kind Mathilden learn that I absolutely have to start with it. Imagine that Carlsburg and his wife have divided themselves into the subterranean realm of their house in such a way that he oversees the wine and she the beer cellar. No other unholy foot enters these regions. No bottle is taken out, no barrel pulled off, except by themselves or in their presence. But they don't even take someone with them to get them out. According to the location of the house, there are days in the year where water comes into the beer cellar. Then Carlsburg puts on water boots and the woman rides him into the beer cellar and does her business. Once Carlsburg has been enrhumed, a maid is needed for this ride. That's really the most original thing you can think of. ”( Sydow, Anna: Wilhelm and Caroline von Humboldt in their letters : Vol. 7, Berlin: 1916; pp. 143f.)
