The Dolly Dots are originally a six-member Dutch girl group that was particularly popular in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
Band history
1979 to 1988
The group was set up in 1978 by Peter van Asten and Richard de Bois around the ballet dancer Angéla Kramers, who was active on the TV station TROS . The singers Ria Brieffies and Angela Groothuizen joined the dancers Angéla Kramers, Anita Heilker, Esther Oosterbeek and Patty Zomer. In June 1979 her first single Boys was released . With this prelude the sextet could already be heard and seen in Ilya Richter's disco in Germany .
Glamor and formation dancing characterized the external appearance of the performances. In the following years the Dolly Dots were a popular group in Europe and Japan. Several times they were guests on German television in the show Musikladen . In Japan they went platinum for their single Radio . The Dolly Dots had their greatest successes in their home country in 1984, when they reached number one in the Dutch charts with Love me just a little bit more . In the same year they received their own television series. The album display was awarded gold .
At the end of 1984 Heilker left the group after the birth of their daughter. In 1986 the quintet went to the USA to film. The resulting film Swoop into Chaos - When weird birds learn to fly (original title Dutch Treat ) was released in 1987. After its failure and the disappointing performance of the single What A Night , the remaining group members decided to break up the Dolly Dots. On October 2nd, 1988 they gave their farewell concert.
After 1988
In 1993, the gold scrapbook hit the charts. In 1998 all six founding members united and voiced the scrapbook The Collection . They reappeared on television in October ten years after they broke up. In 2004, the premiere of the musical Love Me Just A Little Bit More, based on songs from Dolly Dots, was released. The musical toured the Netherlands until February 2005.
Encouraged by this success, a new album and DVD were released showing highlights from the group's career. In 2006 a new tour followed, in 2007 the members appeared on the TV show Vrienden van Amstel Live , and in May of the same year the Dolly Dots could be seen at three sold-out concerts in Rotterdam . The album Reünieconcert was awarded gold.
The singer Ria Brieffies died of lung cancer on July 20, 2009 at the age of 52. Angela Groothuizen was a jury member for The Voice of Holland from 2010 to 2012 and has been a jury member for The Voice Kids original since 2012 .
