Dolmen La Table des Diables
The dolmen La Table des Diables (also called La Pierre au Diable ( German "Teufelsstein" ) is located in La forêt de Charnie near Sainte-Suzanne in the Mayenne department (53) and is one of several so-called "Diable dolmens" in the Region and in France : Le Palais au Diable , Menhir Faix du Diable , La Table aux Diables or La Table au Diable , La Pierre du Diable (Orgeres), Pierre du Diable (Vitrac) , Dolmen du Mont de Viscourt alternatively Pierre du Diable and La Pierre Couvretière (Ancenis) (alternatively La Pierre au Diable ). In France, dolmen is the generic term for megalithic structures of all kinds (see: French nomenclature ).
Much of this site looks like a natural outcrop or a pseudodolmen , apart from the 4 x 2 m stone on top of the rock with a few small supporting stones. To the west are the remains of a destroyed Allée couverte with two rows of parallel curbs about one meter apart. Perhaps the rock on the ledge was a capstone of this unexplored monument. In the list of Mégalithes recensés of Mayenne, the pseudodolmen, similar to “Le pseudo-dolmen de May-en-Multien” (Seine-et-Marne) and other structures of this type, is not listed.
