The Dolmen de l'Hôtel-Dieu ( German  House of God ) is a dolmen in "La Trigale" in the municipality of Ventes in the Eure department in Normandy in France . The megalithic complex is located in the middle of a field in the northwest of the city near the farm l'Hôtel-Dieu, from which it owes its name. In France, dolmen is the generic term for megalithic structures of all kinds (see: French nomenclature ).

description

The dolmen consists of seven preserved bearing stones, the largest of which is 1.9 m long. The roughly triangular ceiling plate made of pudding stone measures around 2.6 × 2.1 m, is 0.8 m thick and is supported by three supporting stones. The height of the monument does not exceed 1.2 m. The bottom of the tomb is covered with stones. They are generally square, measuring 10 to 40 cm and about 8.0 cm thick. The floor of the dolmen documented by Leon Coutil was covered with a 40 cm thick archaeological layer.

The investigation of the Neolithic monument carried out by Jean-Pierre Watté in 1967 led to the discovery of many bone fragments that belonged to two bodies. Furthermore, were flint objects (a polished ax , a scraper , a chisel , arrowheads ), fragments of jewelery, a shell ( Nucella lapillus ) a pear-shaped pearl and small ceramic fragments found (less than 6 cm).
