Distribution of dolmens in Maine-et-Loire - preserved structures are green

The Dolmen de la Pagerie is located west of Gennes-Val-de-Loire near Saumur in the Maine-et-Loire department in France . In France, dolmen is the generic term for Neolithic megalithic structures of all kinds (see: French nomenclature ).

description

The monstrous dolmen, angevin, is close to the eponymous farm. It is one of the enormous dolmens in the region, with a 10.0 m long and 5.0 m wide chamber made from huge slabs.

The dolmen, which was at times misused as a garbage dump, is covered by two massive cover stones, the rear of which rests on three supporting stones, while the front has fallen to the east. The entrance to the south is still largely in situ , but its eastern corner stone has fallen over.

Nearby is the 3.5 m high menhir "Pierre Longue du Bouchet" (also called Pierre Longue de Gennes ) and the Dolmen de la Forêt .

Remarks

  1. The dolmen angevin is an allée couverte of the Loire type with a (retracted) trilith portal as an entrance, like the dolmen de la Pierre Folle in Bournand.
