Dolmen de la Table du Loup
The Dolmen de la Table du Loup ( German "Table of the Wolf" - also called Table au Loup or Table de Maleu ) is located in Sériers in the Cantal department in France and has been a listed building since 1911. In France, dolmen is the generic term for megalithic structures of all kinds (see: French nomenclature ).
The Table du Loup, restored today, was in poor condition as it collapsed and its capstone was dislocated. The mound that originally covered the chamber was barely recognizable as it had been eroded by the elements and human hand.
The department between the Atlantic and the plateaus ( French causses ) has absorbed influences from the Mediterranean region and the Massif Central (the Auvergne and the Creuse department ), resulting in 30-40 simple or complex dolmens and a dozen menhirs . The systematic inventory of the Neolithic megalithic systems , which were often reused in later epochs, confirms the importance of the choice of the locations for the systems. Even so, Colin Renfrew's (1984) hypothesis that the megaliths were territorial markers for the farming communities is not confirmed as the availability of resources was more important.
