The fenced in Dolmen di San Silvestro is located in the archaeological zone on the SP 107 road to Terlizzi , about 6.0 km south of Giovinazzo between Bari and Molfetta in Apulia in Italy . The dolmen was discovered in 1961 when a pile of stones that a bulldozer had cut in the middle was dismantled. It is a handsome example of the megalithic architecture of the 2nd millennium BC. In southern Italy.

Originally, it had the shape of a round hill enclosed by dry stone walls, around 40.0 m in diameter and 10.0 m high. Like other systems of this type, it can be dated to the Bronze Age (1500–1200 BC). It was probably built by a community who lived on the low promontory on which the town of Giovinazzo lies.

Inside the hill is a long, north-south oriented gallery made of slabs and masonry, which is covered with large slabs. At its southern end there is a large round chamber made of dry masonry in the shape of a tholos . On the north side, the chamber, about 50 cm high, is filled with stones. The remains of 13 people with grave goods from various cultures were found here. Probably the dolmen was used continuously over time.

In contrast to the similar megalithic complexes in Bisceglie, the Giovinazzodolmen is still little known 40 years after its discovery and restoration.
