history
Giovinazzo was a small, fortified center in Roman times. Later the commercial center developed and maintained connections with Venice.
In 1257 Manfred , the son of Frederick II gave Giovinazzo as a fief to Giordano Lancia. From 1369 to 1461 the place remained under the rule of the Anjou . Under Charles V , it went to the Duke of Termoli , Ferdinando di Capua, as a fief and experienced changing rulers until the end of feudalism in 1806. First it came into the hands of the Gonzaga , who passed it on to the Prince of Cellamare , Nicolò Giudice, in 1651 . After the Giudice family died out, the former fiefdom fell back to the Kingdom of Naples .
economy
Today Giovinazzo has an important fishing port in addition to trade and industry.

Giovinazzo was the seat of a bishop until it became part of the Molfetta-Ruvo-Giovinazzo-Terlizzi diocese in 1836 . The Arco Traiano uses four Roman columns, the inscriptions of which are reminiscent of the Emperor Trajan . The arch of the gate probably dates from the 14th century.
