Valenzano is a southern Italian municipality ( comune ) in Apulia .

geography

The community has 17,750 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is located in the metropolitan city of Bari , about seven kilometers south of Bari .

history

The area was probably first settled by the Peuketeers , an Italian tribe, in the 4th century BC. Relatively soon afterwards, the settlement came under Hellenistic influence. There is documentary evidence of a settlement from 845 AD under the name Valenziano or Valentiniano .

The Saracens destroyed the place at the end of the 10th century. From the 12th century, different lords and families ruled the place.

Economy and Transport

Numerous research institutions have settled here since 1970, forming the so-called Tecnopolis .

To the east of the municipality, Strada Statale 100 leads from Bari to Taranto. To the west of it is the A14 autostrada , which leads through Apulia towards Massafra or Taranto.

The station Valenzano and the station Valenzano Lamie be of trains the railway line Bari-Martina Franca Taranto served.
