Modugno is an Italian city in the metropolitan city of Bari in Apulia .
Location and dates
Modugno has 37,667 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is 11 km southwest of Bari . The neighboring municipalities are Bari, Bitetto , Bitonto and Bitritto . Outside the city is the former place Balsignano.
history
People lived here even in prehistoric times. The oldest surviving documentary mention of Modugno comes from 1021.
Attractions
The pilgrimage church Santuario di Santa Maria della Grotta is worth seeing . It is located about 3 kilometers outside of Modugno. The painting L'Annunciazione by Bartolomeo Vivarini is in the church of Maria Santissima Annunziata .

Modugno has two train stations and one stop :
- On the Bari – Taranto railway line of the Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane (FS) is the currently operated Modugno Città stop and the former Modugno station, which is now only used as a depot . The latter should be abandoned when a planned route straightening has been implemented.
- Modugno FAL station is located on the narrow-gauge Bari – Matera (950 mm) railway operated by Ferrovie Appulo – Lucane (FAL) .
