Ferrovie Appulo-Lucane
The Ferrovie Appulo-Lucane (FAL) are a regional transport company in southern Italy . It operates a network of narrow-gauge (950 mm) non-electrified railway lines in the regions of Apulia and Basilicata . In addition, there are regular buses in these regions on a route network of around 1000 km, which are also operated by the company. The corporate form is the società a responsabilità limitata (srl). On January 1, 2001, the company became the successor to the Gestione Commissariale Governativa delle Ferrovie Appulo Lucane ed Autoservizi Integrativi .
history
In 1915 the routes Bari - Altamura - Matera and Matera - Villalongo (3 km) were opened. Traffic on the latter was stopped again in 1974. In 1928 the branch line from Matera to Montalbano Jonico (66 km) was opened, which was discontinued in 1972. In 1933 the line from Altamura to Avigliano and its extension to Potenza was opened. In 1931 there was an extension from Potenza to Laurenzana (43 km), which was closed again in 1969.
From 1964 to 1990 the lines ceded by the Mediterranea-Calabro-Lucane (MCL) were operated by the Ferrovie Calabro Lucane (FCL). At the end of 1990 the FCL network was split between the FAL and the Ferrovie della Calabria (FC). Therefore there is a certain correspondence between the two tracks, e.g. B. in vehicles.
Route network
The routes traveled according to the schedule are divided into two subnetworks (as of December 2017):
- Bari Centrale– Toritto - Altamura with wings in Altamura to Matera Sud and Gravina (87 km): 18 pairs of trains per day to Altamura and 6 more between Bari and Toritto
- Avigliano Città – Avigliano Lucania – Potenza Potenza Scalo (13 km): 16 pairs of trains
The two sub-operations with depots in Bari Scalo and Potenza work like independent companies in practice. The connection of the two subnetworks between Gravina and Avigliano Lucania, which runs through a sparsely populated area, is rarely used.
