The M2.120 series were narrow-gauge diesel railcars for Ferrovie Calabro Lucane (FCL) in southern Italy , manufactured by Breda for the Mediterranea-Calabro-Lucane (MCL).

history

The 27 diesel multiple units of the M2.120 series were ordered by MCL from Breda to replace the steam traction. The vehicles with a self-supporting car body built between 1952 and 1957 were conceptually derived from the FS ALn 880 series . Eight matching sidecars R 1001–1008 were procured for reinforcement . The railcars were assigned to the Bari , Potenza , Cosenza and Catanzaro depots . Between 1966 and 1975 they were modernized by Breda and Ferrosud in Matera , replacing the motors, doors and windows and installing diesel-hydraulic drives . Over time, the engine and drive were removed from some railcars and the vehicles were used as sidecars. The M2.128 railcar was destroyed in a fire in Gimigliano in 1964, the remaining vehicles ran until the end of the 1980s. Two railcars, owned by Ferrovie della Calabria (FC) after the division of the FCL , remained assigned to the Cosenza Depot until 2008.
