Michele Corcella

Michele Corcella (born September 23, 1973 in Modugno ) is an Italian jazz musician ( guitar , composition ).

Corcella received his first and second academic diplomas in jazz music and multimedia music from the Bologna Conservatory. He studied musicology at the University of Bologna and wrote a dissertation on the film music by Duke Ellington . Together with Glauco Venier , he has released two albums for Artesuono since 2014 . As a composer, arranger and conductor, he has also worked with musicians such as Kenny Wheeler , John Taylor , David Liebman , Norma Winstone , Anders Jormin , Enrico Pieranunzi , Diana Torto , Daniele Scannapieco, Alfonso Deidda, Rosario Giuliani , Gianluigi Trovesi , Maurizio Giammarco , Maria Pia De Vito , the WDR Big Band Cologne and in the classical field with Mario Brunello, the Altenberg Trio , the Orchestra del Teatro Comunale di Bologna and the Camerata Strumentale Città di Prato.

Corcella has received several awards in national and international composition and arrangement competitions for big bands and symphony orchestras, most recently in 2018 at the European big band composers competition in Copenhagen. Since 2016 he has been teaching jazz composition at the Udine Conservatory.

As an expert on Ellington's music, Corcella has been invited to speak at the International Duke Ellington Conference (2014 in Amsterdam, 2016 in New York, 2018 in Birmingham) and in 2017 at the International Jazz Composers Symposium .
