Sannicandro di Bari is a south-eastern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 9806 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the metropolitan city of Bari in Apulia . The community is about 14 kilometers southwest of Bari around the Castello Normanno Svevo , the castle built by the Staufers and Normans in the 10th century.

The original fortifications go back to the Byzantines. The Castrum Mezardi originally served the reconquest of Italy.

At Sannicandro di Bari, the A14 autostrada leads east from Bari to or towards Taranto . However, there is no connection.
The former train station of the place was given up after the commissioning of a new railway line Bari-Taranto . There is only one depot on the new route .
