Triggiano is a town in Apulia , Italy , southeast of Bari with 26,993 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

Geographical location

Triggiano is about five kilometers from Bari. The distance to the Adriatic Sea, which lies in the northeast, is also only five kilometers.

To the southeast lies Noicattaro , in the south Cellamare and west of the city Bitritto .

Worth seeing

The medieval townscape of Triggiano can still be seen in the Rione Ponte district. It takes its name from the access to the city via a drawbridge. Sights are:

  • The church of Santa Maria Veterana hypogeum and the paintings in its inner aisles .
  • The Church of San Lorenzo
  • The “Madonna-della-Croce” frescoes in the patronage church of the same name

Celebrations and events

Every year on the third Sunday in September there is a patronage festival in honor of Our Lady of the Cross. During this time, numerous emigrant families from all over the world, especially from the USA and Venezuela, come to the hometown of their ancestors to celebrate with the locals.
