Cellamare is a south- east Italian municipality ( comune ) with 5794 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the metropolitan city of Bari in Apulia . The municipality is located about 13 kilometers southeast of Bari .

history

As in other communities in Apulia, there is also a menhir here , which indicates a settlement in the early days.

The community is first mentioned in 1171 (as Cella d'Amore , also: Cella Amoris , Cella Amaris ) and is said to be a foundation of the Archbishop of Bari Rainaldo.

Economy and Transport

The community is dominated by agriculture. The State Road 100 di Gioia di Colle runs through the municipality.

Cellamare has had a partnership with the Spanish city of Martos in the province of Jaén since 2005 .
