The Explora Knoll , together with the Andenes Knoll and the Polarstern Knoll, form a group of deep-sea mountains in the eastern Weddell Sea near the Caird coast of the East Antarctic Coatsland . It is located at a depth of 3605 meters.
The name of the rock goes back to the surveyor and glaciologist Heinrich Hinze from the Alfred Wegener Institute and has been internationally recognized since 1997. It is named after the research ship Explora , with whose help geophysical investigations were carried out in the area of the reef rocks between 1977 and 1980.
